With musical influences from Mos Def and Common to Ryan Leslie and Ne-Yo, Ian Wellz’s artistry supersedes that of the typical rap artist. Ian Wellz love affair with music began in 1997 when he picked up the trumpet, but it wasn’t until he heard Jay’Z’s “Hard Knock Life Vol. 2” that he fell in love with hip hop. With “Reasonable Doubt” reigning as his favorite album of all time, Wellz was exposed to a wide spectrum of music during his attendance at Arts High School in Newark, NJ. It was during his time at Arts High that Wellz wrote his first verse in a PE class. Upon graduation in 2003 Wellz eventually started making beats and his interest peaked at this time when he started using tools provided by MTV.

As a young man residing in Newark, NJ and not waiting for opportunity to come knocking at his door, Wellz took it upon himself to hustle hard and buy his own studio equipment in 2005. It was at this moment that he realized music is what he wanted to dedicate his creativity to.
With this discovery, Wellz’s first mixtape project “Jim Beam: No Chaser “was birthed. With an eclectic arrangement of tracks the lyrics and beats range from seductive in “Bring it Back” to rugged in “50-50”. Throughout the mixtape lyrical wordplay, quality production, and entertainment value can be found in every song. Reviews from prominent figures in the music industry include: “Very solid artist”, “Good vocal presence”, and “All the elements are there”.

Wellz is a producer, songwriter, performer, and overall creator. This is the first chapter in his life as an artist, many more to follow.
