Eddie Murphy has emerged as a top contender to host the 2012 Academy Awards, the Los Angeles Times reports, citing sources close to the telecast. The Oscars telecast is being co-produced by Brett Ratner, who just directed Murphy in the upcoming film "Tower Heist."
